IMPORTANT FOR  ANYONE COMING TO ROMANIA AND NOT USED TO ROMANIAN MONEY

Starting July 1 the Romanian NEW LEI was introduced.

1 NEW LEI (RON) = 10000 OLD LEI (ROL)

Basically they cut 4 zeros

The old lei bills are still accepted , togheter with new bills.
So we have the following bills :
NEW lei RON
 equals
 OLD lei ROL
1 RON
 equals 10000 ROL
5 RON
 equals 50000 ROL
10 RON
 equals 100000 ROL
50 RON
 equals 500000 ROL
100 RON
equals 1000000 ROL
500 RON
 equals 5000000 ROL

The prices are shown in the NEW lei , sometimes in both old and new.
The new and ols money look and worth the same and are accepted in shops for one year and a half.

TRAVELERS COMING HERE AND NOT USED TO ROMANIAN MONEY HAVE TO BE PARTICULARY CAREFULL NOT TO BE TRICKED WHEN PAYING / RECEIVING CHANGE / EXCHANGING MONEY, ETC.
